It began when Meg Ryan gave an interview in which she finally talked about her relationship with Russell Crowe. At the time, 8 years ago, the actors were working on the film Proof of Life. They launched into an affair that appeared to be the reason why Ryan's marriage to Dennis Quaid fell apart. Crowe had briefly left his longtime girlfriend, Danielle Spencer, for Ryan. Spencer is now his wife.
At the time, America's sweetheart looked like she should be wearing the scarlett letter A. She and Quaid kept quiet about their falling out, apparently for the sake of their young son, Jack. Ryan wore the blame and Quaid remarried.
Now son Jack is 16 and Ryan is talking and explaining that she had long been hurt in her marriage by her husband's repeated infidelities. Quaid is furious. He hasn't denied the allegations outright but he's expressing outrage that Ryan would air their dirty laundry in public, now, this many years later. He claims it will only hurt their son.
I would counter that Dennis Quaid really isn't a stand-up guy. He let Ryan take the heat for their breakup and didn't say a word about any of it possibly also being his fault. If he was truly worried about how his son would fare in the glare of the public spotlight - which they both reside in because of their chosen vocation - he ought to have absorbed some of the impact of the split instead of allowing it all to rest on Jack's Mom. Methinks he may be more worried that a little secret about him has come out. He's not faithful. Maybe his new wife is giving him grief. Looks good on him.
